I was speaking to a bunch of college kids about 6 months ago and really had to resist the urge to tell them that for many, many people, working in advertising is like being a well dressed Al Bundy: you end up selling things you don't care about to "target demographics" and come home miserable at night. Which made me realize that Advertising and Marketing can be so dirty and ugly and something that I never wanted to be a part of. It made me reflect on the choice I have, to be a part of something either negative or positive to give back to this world. It made me ask myself, can I have both of these worlds: advertising and making a difference? It's the conscious pioneer that can decide to take a negative tool and use it in a positive manner, one in which is making a difference, rather than just a profit.
