QR Codes Are the Roller-Skating Horses of Advertising: an intermediate technology at best, a novelty at worst

You can read the article if you want, but I’m posting this mostly because I just wanted to put a picture of a roller skating horse on my site. So - mission accomplished there.
If you decide to brave an article about advertising, know at least this much: there is no rhyme or reason to what the ad industry decides is the “next big thing” and what it decides is a “roller skating horse”. This is after all, the same industry the swore by augmented reality or swore by gamification before reversing course an pronouncing them “over”.
The issue is that, for the most part, advertising doesn’t really have any cultural history of understanding the technology-society-marketplace interface and so they treat every piece of technology like any other fashion trend: It’s the future, it’s passé.
